IAOM at the 2024 Academy of Management in Chicago
What a 2024 Academy of Management Conference for the IAOM! The Iberoamerican Academy of Management had a series of fantastic activities, and we couldn't be prouder of the results:
Our PDW "Innovating for the Future: Igniting Sustainable Innovation & Ethical Entrepreneurship in Iberoamerica" was a hit, attracting not only insightful research but also engaging discussions around how we can shape the future of business in the region. The passion and expertise in the room were truly inspiring!
The social event, generously sponsored by EGADE Business School del Tecnológico de Monterrey, was beyond our expectations, with 3x the anticipated turnout! The incredible energy and valuable connections made will undoubtedly strengthen our network for years to come. It was a night of celebration and community!
We also celebrated the impressive growth of our journal, which continues to increase its impact factor year after year. It's a testament to the quality of research in Iberoamerica and the hard work of our editorial team and, in particular, José Ernesto Amorós Espinosa—Thank you! We’re excited to see where it goes next!
We fondly remembered the buzz and excitement of our #IAOM2023 Conference in Punta Cana (Dominican Republic), which set a high bar for both academic excellence and memorable experiences.
Exciting news ahead! We announced a fresh set of development activities and are thrilled to invite everyone to our #IAOM2025 #IAOMAD25 conference in Madrid at Universidad CEU San Pablo. It's going to be an event to remember—mark your calendars now!
During our Executive Meeting, we renew the VP roles of Jorge Gonzalez, Pascual Berrone, José Luis Pérez Rivas, Mickey Quinones as VPs, we welcomed Isabel Guitierrez, Roberto Vassolo, Guillermo vanderLinde, Cristina Cruz, Patricio Duran, Marta Elvira, and Horacio Arredondo as new VPs, and Monica Franco-Santos as our new incoming President. Congratulations!
A huge thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this event such a success! Special shoutout to Len Treviño, Monica Franco-Santos, Erica Salvaj, Ernesto Amorós, Fernanda Wagstaff, Maritza Espina, Luis Luis A. Perez-Batres, Tamara Mera, and Ruth Mateos de Cabo for their continued leadership and support.
Looking forward to 2025!
Establishing collaborations
We are pleased to share our plans for developing a scholarship framework designed to support our forthcoming members' skill development activities. To contribute to this initiative, we are exploring collaborations with Vitae in the UK and the PhD Project in the US, and we have already established a support partnership with RRBN. These partnerships will provide essential research resources and education opportunities for our community.

Lifestyle Entrepreneurship: Turning what you Love into a Business -Submission Deadline: 15 January 2026
Practitioner and academic interest in new ventures formed by those seeking fulfilment through entrepreneurship increased dramatically over the past decade. Defined as "the creation of new ventures to engage in activities that the entrepreneurs find rewarding and/or to allow them to live in desired locations" (Ivanycheva, Schulze, Lundmark and Chirico, 2024: 2257), lifestyle ventures range from those based on creative expression and the delivery of recreational services, to those relying on the attractiveness of a certain location, such as hospitality and tourism. Critically, lifestyle entrepreneurship involves turning one's love, passion, or dream into a business that enhances life's meaning. The purpose of this special issue to solicit contributions that connect lifestyle entrepreneurship research with the entrepreneurship, strategic management, and management literatures, thereby enhancing our understanding of lifestyle entrepreneurship's drivers, processes, and outcomes.
Family business research on international business in a changing world” - Submission Deadline of January 30, 2026
Family businesses, which contribute more than 66% of global GDP, significantly influence the global economy, particularly through their dominance in emerging markets. With the fast development of emerging markets, more family businesses from the Global South have stepped on the international stage. These family businesses have unique characteristics and behaviors that are distinct from those of their peers in more developed countries in the Global North. Yet most of the literature examines family businesses in the Global North. This focus has created an important knowledge gap that leads us to direct attention to family businesses in the Global South to advance existing IB theories and introduce new constructs and theories from other fields that enrich the interdisciplinarity and cross-functionality of the IB field.
